Velva Sheen Mfg. Co. was a classic American sportswear brand, manufacturing tees, sweats and jackets for colleges, universities and the Armed Forces, beginning in 1932. Originally made in Cincinnatti, Ohio, they were famous for their exceptionally high quality tubular knit construction, which results in garments without side seams. The company changed hands many times up until the '90s, before going out of business. The brand has recently been revived by Japan's Topwin Corporation.
This stunning short sleeve sweatshirt is a great example of how special vintage can be - you can tell how exceptionally made this garment is just by touching it. Fleece this smooth and soft is extremely rare today, and the construction on this is impeccable even to the untrained eye. Not to mention the styling, with those perfect striped cuffs and collar on the navy body. "NMMI" is puff printed on the chest. To top it all off, it is in unbelievable condition and looks nearly new.
