Velva Sheen Mfg. Co. was a classic American sportswear brand, manufacturing tees, sweats and jackets for colleges, universities and the Armed Forces, beginning in 1932. Originally made in Cincinnatti, Ohio, they were famous for their exceptionally high quality tubular knit construction, which results in garments without side seams. The company changed hands many times up until the '90s, before going out of business. The brand has recently been revived by Japan's Topwin Corporation.
Everything we've ever found by Velva Sheen has been in truly beautiful condition - a testament to just how solidly made (and how cherished) these garments were. This one is a really neat piece, made in the style of an athletic ringer tee in a breathable pique weave, usually seen on polo shirts. Single stitch construction, rib knit cuffs and collar in a beautiful golden yellow with black accents. Screenprint on front chest for Pine Crest School Music Dept. Made in USA.
