Curling sweaters, also known in Canada as "Mary Maxim sweaters" (after the company which published popular knitting patterns for the sweaters in the 50s and 60s), are properly called Cowichan sweaters, after the Cowichan people of British Columbia to whom the technique and design belong. These heavy knit, weather resistant, patterned wool sweaters have been popular since the 19th century.
Knit in a vibrant royal blue heavy wool and finished with a warm shawl collar and Lightning zipper, this sweater was made in the 1960s/70s and has a snowflake-esque pattern along the hem and cuffs, with two hand pockets. Raglan sleeves ease movement. This is the definitive style of sweater for Canadian winters.
