how we got here
With over 20 years of hands-on experience in vintage sourcing, wholesale, and retail, Matt Schateback isn’t just a collector—he’s a connoisseur of fashion history. As the co-founder of Hogtown Flea (2020) and Coffee and Clothing (2018), he’s been at the heart of Toronto’s vintage scene for years, curating collections that tell a story.
Before diving into vintage, Matt spent a decade in advertising and marketing, where his eye for trends and branding was nurtured. This background gave him the tools to not only know which rare finds were temporally trending, but also elevate pieces into cohesive collections—whether for retail, film, or personal wardrobes.
At Coffee and Clothing’s east end brick-and-mortar shop, Matt spent over 10 years styling, sourcing, merchandising, and renting vintage pieces, working with brands like Canada Goose and Roots to create collaborative collections. He’s also sourced for Netflix’s The Gentleman and My Old Ass, delivering authentic, era-defining pieces.
Today, Coffee and Clothing’s primary offering is private sourcing for retailers, collectors, and artists with a vision. His Toronto-based showroom continues to be a treasure trove of meticulously curated vintage—spanning the 1940s to 1970s—where every garment is chosen for its craftsmanship, rarity, and character.
