Sukajan, or souvenir jackets, originated in Japan during the post-WW2 occupation, popular amongst American GIs to bring home as souvenirs - hence the name. The jackets were styled after baseball/varsity jackets, colourful and often reversible, and made of rayon, silk or sometimes the remnants of parachute capes. Soldiers had various designs handstitched onto their jackets, usually a blend of Japanese and American cultural themes, often approximating tattoo designs in style. Vintage sukajan are highly sought after. Sukajans were introduced by Kosho & Co. (the original name of the modern Toyo Enterprises).

Strap in, because this is an incredibly rare, original, deadstock Kosho & Co. sukajan with tag still attached! Made between 1949 and 1953 during the Korean War, this fully reversible collectible beauty is made of beautiful silk and features stunning embroidery. One side sports dual tigers on front with "Korea", tiger and map of Korea on the rear, on a gorgeous hard-to-describe purple-pink and silver body, with blue piping and red/white knit ribbing. The other side is a brilliant royal blue/silver diamond quilted body with silver accents and blue/white ribbing, dual eagles on the chest and "Korea" and dragon on the back. Left sleeve on side one has some slight scuffing and a few small holes from storage.

This beauty is dated to between 1948 and 1953 and is fully reversible. One side features a blue and silver body, quilted patch pockets, with embroidered tiger and dragon on front. The back is embroidered with gold, silver and pink map of Japan, including Mount Fuji and a dragon in the water below the mainland.
