Curling sweaters, also known in Canada as "Mary Maxim sweaters" (after the company which published popular knitting patterns for the sweaters in the 50s and 60s), are properly called Cowichan sweaters, after the Cowichan people of British Columbia to whom the technique and design belong. These heavy knit, weather resistant, patterned wool sweaters have been popular since the 19th century.
This is knot your average sweater - it's ferry special! Heavy, dense wool knit body. Blue-and-yellow sailboats, anchors, ship's wheel and rope theme front and back. Warm shawl collar and St. Catherine's own Lightning brand zipper. Two front pockets. In true Canadian curling sweater tradition, this was handmade at home.
This is the definitive style of sweater for Canadian winters.
