These US Navy deck bibs, an early military take on overalls, were a part of a sailor's wet weather uniform kit in WWII. Used by ground forces, landing craft crews, or for when working topside on a ship in foul weather, they were worn over pants with matching parka and provided good protection against the elements. Everything has been thoughtfully designed with rain in mind: the large front pocket has a buttoned flap closure, while the fly has a buttoned double "upside-down" storm flap and Conmar zipper. USN stencil stamp on front. Drawstrings at cuffs and adjustable tabs at waist. Riveted at stress points. Cotton, with a synthetic resin coating for water resistance. Marked size small.
Made in USA by Red Star Rubber Co., Brooklyn, NY. 1945.
