The Elcraft Company Ltd. was a Toronto-based manufacturer of sports apparel and "crests". Not much is known about the company now, but it was in operation throughout at least the 1940s and '50s, located in 1940 at 97 Pelham Ave. and relocating to 165 York St. (now a Keg restaurant) by at least 1948.

You might have noticed that early 20th century sports apparel pieces are some of our favourite vintage garments. This is a mind-blowing 1940s football jersey with Toronto history, to boot, and it is glorious. Constructed of panelled loop terry cotton and so chock full of age, wear and character that it's wearing its long life on its sleeve - literally. Old enough to basically be an antique, it's thrashed and faded to perfection, with quite a few holes and tears (though none compromising the integrity of the garment) and the green and white are beautifully washed out, while still retaining a hint of their original shine and luster. Flip to the back and you'll find the faded imprint of lettering reading "Beach Pavilion" and the remnants of a thick, stitched patch number 11. Heavily faded Elcraft tag reads "Styled for Champions". Magnificent. Made in Toronto.
