1943 USN N-1 Winter Blue Deck Bib - Medium
These US Navy N-1 "Winter Trousers" or deck bibs, an early military take on overalls, were a part of a sailor's winter deck uniform kit in WWII. For when working topside on a ship in winter weather, they were worn over pants with a matching soft "helmet" and the iconic N-1 deck jacket and provided protection plus extra warmth when needed.
These are the much rarer navy blue version. Redesigned near the end of the war in olive green jungle cloth, these earlier versions had a larger front body stencil reading "U.S. NAVY", no fly, with metal "fireman" clasps at the side waist. Made of thick bedford cord fabric with a warm wool lining, this pair is in beautiful condition, with two patches/repairs and some stitch repairs at the crotch. Tagged size large.
Made in USA by Mario G Mirabelli, Elizabeth, NJ. 1943.
